Web Browsers

Currently Scans Four Browsers
Internet Explorer 5.x – 7.x
Mozilla Firefox 1.xx
Opera 8.xx
Netscape 8.xx

Always make sure you are running the most recent version available for your browser

Embedded (Typed) URLs
These are websites that have been typed manually into your web browser. These typically show up under the Address Bar where you type or view the website address.

Toolbar Button Applications
Many installed programs attach their program to your browser. These are not toolbars. These are buttons that you see attached to the default Internet Explorer toolbars.

Entire Web History
Every website you have visited is contained in a database maintained by your browser. Internet Explorer does not completely clear its own cache when you clear it through the internet options page. It only clears what is visible to you. XP Privacy Pro clears everything.

Temporary Internet Cache
Every page that you visit on the internet gets downloaded to a temporary folder or database maintained by your browser. This includes images and other content on the page. EVERYTHING. XP Privacy Pro clears content that even your browser typically leaves behind after clearing it’s cache.

Cookies
Cookies are files that websites (both good and bad) use to track personal information such as email addresses passwords to their site or others. Sometimes these items are construed as spyware but realistically they are more of a necessity. It is safe to delete these; websites will recreate them automatically though. They can be used to track what websites you've visited and possibly used to clone your identity on your secure sites.

Auto-Complete Data
If you have ever began to type and you see a list of items that you have typed before; this is called Auto-Complete. Sometimes it is good but sometimes it can contain very private information that you may not want them to see.

Stored Usernames and Passwords
Every site that you have in your browser that automatically saves your usernames and passwords via standard login windows is maintained in this section. This is usually unchecked by default so as not to remove important passwords.

Windows System

Recent Documents
Every file that you have opened is listed in a folder as a shortcut. Typically this is available from the Start Menu, but you may or may not not have this enabled. Whether it is visible on the menu or not; Window's will still track your most recently opened files

Recycle Bin
Typically when you delete files, they are sent directly to the Recycle Bin. Files here can be restored or you can empty them. Files that are emptied are not actually deleted though. Windows just doesn't recognizes them as files. They are only gone after some other data (file) overwrites them. That is what our Drive Space shredder will do.

Start Menu Run
This list is comprised of entries that you have typed into the RUN bar from the Start Menu.

Windows File Search
Whenever you search for a File or Folder using Windows Search from the Start Menu, it is stored into a database and can be easily viewed.

System Restore Points
Windows XP has a feature that remembers key registry settings and other files or settings. These restore points can contain private data that you don't want recovered. You can remove individual restore points, or all of them.

Stored Clipboard
Clipboard is an easy way to transfer information from one place in Windows to the other. Clipboard can contain any of the following data:
  • Text (All Formats)
  • Images
  • Files
  • Data Objects
  • and Many More.
The clipboard is maintained when you shut down your computer. It is only cleared during a typical system startup.

Temporary Files
All programs in use on your computer store temporary data that cannot be stored in memory to locations known simply as Temporary Directories. Program installations also typically expand their data to these temporary folders during the installation. Many times they do not remove them and build up over time.

Windows Temp
All programs in use on your computer store temporary data that cannot be stored in memory to locations known simply as Temporary Directories. Program installations also typically expand their data to these temporary folders during the installation. Many times they do not remove them and build up over time.

Program MRUs (Most Recently Used Lists)

What is an MRU
A lot of programs that you use will store information about the files that you have opened with it. For example, Windows Media Player stores a playlist of all of the files you have played most recently. Our list below is a small list in comparison to all of the available programs but we are adding more.

Windows Media Player
WinRAR
WinACE
WinZip
Paintbrush
Wordpad

File and Disk Shredder

Scans using Approved Standards for Overwriting Data.
There are four main levels you can choose when shredding data. Basic, (Department of Defense) DoD 5220.22-M, NSA (National Security Agency), and Guttman level shreds available. You can also choose a custom level. These methods are approved by these agencies to provide maximum removal of data from media and to prevent recovery.

Shred an Entire Drive
If you are selling a hard disk or just want to maintain your privacy; you can run our disk shredder and all data that was recoverable on the disk will be wiped out entirely.

Free Space Shredder
You can also safely clear the recoverable deleted information from the free space on your available hard disks without harming any files or folders that are on the disk(s).
